Chad Smikahl
President
Chad Smikahl began his orthopaedic career nearly 30 years ago as a Certified Surgical Technologist, working at Poudre Valley Hospital to pay for undergrad at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins. He quickly blended his passion for orthopaedics and surgery with his desire to learn, and upon graduation entered into Orthopaedic sales.
He then gained extensive experience in orthopaedics including Joint Reconstruction, Trauma, Sports Medicine and Spine Surgery, and now with over 22 years representing DePuy Synthes he leads Legacy Consultants across Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, W. Texas and Wyoming.
Chad assumed leadership and established Legacy Consultants in 2023, and with great help has built a team of exceptional sales directors, sales consultants and industry leading operational management. With nearly 100 sales professionals, it is his passion to mentor and lead the next generation of orthopaedic consultants.
When time allows, Chad loves spending time with his wife Chloe and his five children. With them, he enjoys traveling, outdoor activities and time at their cabin.
Ben Troy
Director of Operations
Ben Troy oversees operations for Legacy Consultants across Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, West Texas, and Southern Wyoming. He brings nearly two decades of healthcare supply chain experience, including leadership roles at HCA Healthcare, where he oversaw operations supporting eight hospitals, 24 surgery centers, and a regional distribution center. At Legacy, Ben focuses on building reliable processes and giving sales and operations teams the support they need to serve surgeons and their patients.
Away from the office, Ben enjoys cycling and spending time with his wife and two children.
Matt Richins
Director of Finance
Matt Richins brings more than 20 years of finance leadership experience in the aerospace industry to Legacy Consultants. He works with Legacy’s President on the company’s financial matters and leads its contracting function. Moving into Orthopaedics has given Matt a new industry to learn and a fresh set of challenges to tackle.
In his free time, Matt attends his kids’ activities, hikes and bikes, plays guitar, and enjoys a good book.
Ben Duke
Shoulder Sales Director
Ben Duke serves as Shoulder Sales Director for Legacy Consultants, supporting total shoulder arthroplasty across Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. A 21-year veteran of DePuy, he has worked in the operating room on primary and revision knee, hip, and shoulder arthroplasty. He began his full-time shoulder leadership role with Legacy in January 2026 and values working alongside the teams who serve patients.
Ben enjoys spending time with his wife, Jobi, and their three sons. Together they enjoy mountain biking, pickleball, and skiing in Colorado.
Luke Cyphers
Regional Sales Director
Luke Cyphers has spent 15 years with DePuy Synthes. He worked with the Fort Collins team for 11 years before becoming Regional Sales Director for Legacy Consultants’ North region.
Luke values the lasting relationships he builds through his work and especially enjoys supporting surgeons as they establish their practices. He also enjoys golfing, camping, and spending time with his family.
Nick Larson
Regional Sales Director
Nick Larson leads Legacy’s sales teams across North Central Colorado, the eastern plains, New Mexico, and West Texas. He joined Legacy after 13 years as a Stryker sales representative in Northwestern Colorado and has served as a Regional Sales Director for more than three years. Nick enjoys building strong teams and lasting relationships with sales representatives and surgeons.
Nick makes time for family and friends, hockey and golf, following sports, and travel whenever he can.
Ryan Kennedy
Regional Sales Director
Ryan Kennedy leads Legacy’s sales team in Arizona, bringing 25 years of experience with DePuy Synthes. He spent 23 years with Team Scottsdale before moving into regional sales leadership. Ryan enjoys mentoring his team, shaping sales strategy, and building lasting relationships with healthcare professionals, hospitals, and clinics. He finds the greatest reward in supporting medical technologies that help improve patient outcomes.
Ryan’s interests beyond work include time with his family, sporting events, and the outdoors.
Ryan Holifield
Director of Enabling Technologies
Ryan Holifield has 11 years of experience with robotic technology for knee and hip surgery, including five years with DePuy Synthes. He supports teams across Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and parts of Wyoming, Texas, and Nebraska.
Ryan enjoys the variety of his role and the opportunity to teach reps and surgeons how enabling technology works and how it can support patient care. He spends his personal time fly fishing, camping, golfing, practicing archery, boating, and being with his family.
Wes Kemp
Regional Sales Director
Wes Kemp brings more than 14 years of orthopaedic sales experience to his role as Regional Sales Director in Colorado. He began his career in 2012 supporting total joint, sports medicine, and general surgery cases at a Denver orthopaedic surgery center. He then spent nine years as a reconstructive Orthopaedics sales representative with Legacy Consultants, earning multiple President’s, Insignia, and Ring of Honor Awards. Wes values lasting relationships with the surgeons and facilities he serves.
Away from work, Wes enjoys time with his family, cycling, rock climbing, and snowboarding.
Ty Hawkinson
Operations Manager, Tempe
Ty Hawkinson brings 27 years of orthopaedic experience to Legacy Consultants. He began his career in delivery and case coverage before spending nine years in sales with DePuy Synthes. Since moving into warehouse leadership in 2010, he has focused on getting the implants and instrument sets needed for hip, knee, and shoulder procedures where they need to be. Ty leads the Tempe operations team and enjoys working alongside them to meet the daily challenges of supporting patient care.
Ty and his wife, Amy, enjoy trying new restaurants, and he plays golf with friends.
Brett Carson
Operations Manager, Greenwood Village
Brett Carson has worked in orthopaedic operations since 2019. He leads a four-person team coordinating implants and instruments for surgical teams across Colorado, New Mexico, West Texas, and Wyoming. Brett values knowing that his team’s work helps patients recover and regain mobility.
Brett enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, along with camping, hunting, cooking, music, and Colorado sports.
